Isabeli Bergossi Fontana was born on July 4, 1983, in Curitiba, in the Paraná region of Brazil. She has two siblings; brothers Harrison and Heric. In 1996, she was one of the finalists in an Elite Model Look Contest in Sao Paulo, and a year later, when she was only 14, she traveled from her native Brazil to Italy, to start working as a model.

At the age of sixteen, in 1999, Isabeli Fontana appeared in the Victoria's Secret catalogue. This was quite unusual and created a bit of a stir in the fashion scene, since Victoria's Secret thereby violated its policy of not hiring models below the age of 21. Obviously this stire may have harmed them, but certainly helped sweet Isabeli.
